[ mood | tired ]

Alas, I think my old iPod nano is dying. Even at full volume, the volume isn't that loud. I can't hear it at all at the gym over the noise of whatever I'm doing. The volume is low plugged into my headphones and my computer speakers. Also, the "hold" slide switch is loose and doesn't always work properly. I am reticent to lay down the money for a new ipod, but hell...

on the road again [25 Jun 2010|03:05pm]
[ mood | lazy ]

I've been lazy this summer and gotten to a slow start. But it's finally time to leave so I can squeeze in my full month in Arizona. Travel itinerary thus far looks like:

-Pensacola to visit the ready-to-pop sister-in-law
-scenic rural routes through Louisianna bayou/gulf areas to see it all before the oil kills everything off for good.
-scenic rural routes through/camping in central Texas' Hill Country
-camping at Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Tx
-Carlsbad Caverns National Park, NM
-Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument, NM
-camping & hiking in the Pinos Altos mountains, NM
-Coronado Scenic Trail through the White Mountains, AZ
-potentially camping in the White Mountains, Az
-parental homefront

My goal to is to NOT hit an elk or deer. They're apparently all over the place where I'm driving through NM & AZ.

Worlds Colliding! [15 Jun 2010|03:00am]
So some friends from work and I had a "Girl's Night" tonight, following on the coattails of our night out on Friday.

For the first time in years and years and years, I tried to explain what an AMV was and what More Than Toast embodied. I tried to explain that amv's were the vehicle through which I met what they know as "those guys in DC" that I visit whenever I can. I actually pulled up a video on youtube and showed them my Kite/Peace On Earth vid. The girls actually laughed through the whole thing, and declared that it was "so Erin." I like that there is some part of me that has transcended the past decade from my old life and still represents the me of my new life. Even though I don't feel at all like the same person that I was back in those forever ago days, apparently the fucked up part of me is still inherently ME. I'll assume that's good.

Dude, how did I end up so twisted? I keep forgetting how weird I am until I watch a new batch of "normal" people get used to the uncensored version of me. Sometimes I wonder if life would be easier if I were normal. Nice and normal.

Niece & Nephew due date moved up to first week of August...how nice of them to change their schedule so I can see them before the school year starts back up! I must already be their favorite aunt!

I have never in my life seen so many purely joyful and glowing smiles as when all the teachers gather at the bus loop and wave goodbye to the last bus of kids for the school year. Singing and dancing literally broke out amongst the teachers in overflowing glee as the final bus rounded the corner out of sight. 2 more days to pack up my classroom, and then 8 weeks without any specific plans in sight!

[ mood | angry ]

Right before waking up, I had a nightmare that my 6th period class went totally haywire - blatant insubordination, talking back in major ways, and finally a full on brawl/fist fight. I woke up incredibly angry and frustrated from the dream. I'm having a tough time shrugging off the bad mood, but it's hard...it feels like it really happened!

browsing a music website, while I'm listening to some tracks, I look at the info provided:

"Les Inedits by Manno Charlemagne.
Recommended if you like:
Bob Dylan
Manno Charlemagne"

Thats like defining the word melancholy by saying "it's when you're melancholy."

I dig the album in question, btw, though unfortunately I don't understand Haitian Creole. I wonder if they have a Rosetta Stone for that?

why am I always fall-over tired at 6pm when it's inconvenient, but wide awake between the hours of 8 - 12?

Maybe I'll go camping in Northern Georgia during spring break next month. I've already skipped my entire winter camping season for the first time in years. I think it's time to go hug a tree. I've been wary of the North Georgia mountains since the Black Bear Incident of '08. And the Scorpion Incident of '09. Eh, that's the adventure!

If you haven't watched Food, Inc. you should.
If you are fiscally able to make more responsible decisions while shopping, you should.

I haven't killed my tomato plants yet...go me!

Happy early St. Patrick's day. Erin Go Bragh!
though technically my forebears were scotch-irish and had no love for those heathen green-wearing, leprechaun-hugging catholics...not that that will stop me from wearing my metallic four leaf clover and green-striped socks tomorrow! Last year I forgot to wear green, so I had to roll up my pant leg so my 4 leaf clover tattoo showed...very convenient.

technical question [07 Feb 2010|12:42pm]
[ mood | confused ]

I'm currently using a tv thats not mine that is older. It doesn't have the little red, white, and yellow jacks to hook up my dvd player. Is there some other way to connect it? I tried to connect it through the cable box (it's at&t u-verse, not brighthouse) and i could get audio from the dvd player, but no video. As usual, I am confused. any suggestions?

It would be awesome if I didn't land on my bad knee every time I tripped and fell.
Better yet...it would be nice if I werent always tripping and falling.

And why why WHY did my AP do my long observation on the FIRST day back from a week of vacation, when the kids (and myself) are still in a moderately catatonic state? poop.

First off, why is my fever going UP instead of DOWN?

The highlight of my day at work was a moment in the big student concert where one of the vocal ensembles performed the theme of the Addams Family. They were in all black except for white gloves. They blacked out all lights in the auditorium, and turned on black lights so all you could see where their glowing hands. Pretty cool. But then, the BEST PART...it morphed into the MC Hammer version, from the movie sound track in the early 90's, and a kid as white as can be, wearing a glittering red vest & bow tie (chorus uniform), came out and did a full on Hammer Rap. The adults were DYING, and the kids didn't understand why, since NONE OF THEM know who MC Hammer is. I cried! Real tears!

Now to bed, I'm hoping 10 or 11 hours of sleep will help get rid of my creeping gunk. What is it? I don't know. All the doctor said while listening to me taking deep breaths today was "Yup, there's definitely something funky going on in there!"

Behind the times, as always [31 Oct 2009|04:07pm]
Question: WiFi

If you have a laptop or netbook computer, how do you get the WiFi at places like Panera or Starbucks to work on your computer? Do you have to have something specific plugged in? Does it cost?

Do you think the hassle and cost of moving is worth rent that is $200 cheaper a month? Also a longer drive to work, but no tolls. And really close to the beach.

I don't believe there is a Wikipedia page for The Acreage, Florida. I also don't believe that it's apparently known for it's "diverse foreign-born population." The Acreage only calls to mind all of the confederate flag waving, tobacco chewin' Sons of the South rednecks that I worked with for those interesting teenage years at the pizza joint. Maybe I should add that to the wikipedia page to give a more rounded view!

Be a good person! Donate a few bucks to a good cause! [29 Sep 2009|06:22pm]
Hi all,
As you may or may not know, I am a co-sponsor of my school's Builder's Club. This is the middle school version of the Key Club - community service and involvement. This year we have over 20 students enthusiastically volunteering their time and efforts for the Walk For Autism 5k. This is pretty remarkable for 11, 12, and 13-year-olds. If you can, I would appreciate any donations that you guys might spare for the cause. A child is diagnosed with Autism about every 20 minutes - pretty scary since no one really knows for sure what it is, what the causes are, or how to cure it. Kiss up to your karma and donate!

I even have my own special little website where you can donate if you're feeling generous and oh so wonderful!
